The latest report by Moreno Morello, broadcast on Striscia La Notizia, shed light on the issue of the illicit sale of certified FFP2 masks for children. The devices were sold in shops, pharmacies but especially online, as compliant with the regulations relating to Ffp2, but in reality they did not possess any authorization to be marketed as such.

The filtering facepieces (FFp2 and FFp3 masks), by definition, are used in hospital and care settings to protect the user from external agents (also from transmission of infections by droplets and aerosols), are certified in accordance with the provisions of Legislative Decree no. lgs. n. 475/1992 and on the basis of harmonized technical standards (UNI EN 149: 2009).
The technical standard Uni Un 149: 2009 specifies the minimum requirements for anti-dust filtering half masks, used as respiratory protection devices (called FFp2 and FFp3), in order to guarantee the characteristics of efficiency, breathability, stability of the structure. through technical tests.

As can be seen from the definition, FFp2 masks are for the exclusive use of adults and in particular of workers, therefore not usable by minors.

Confirmation of what was discovered by the Striscia correspondent came from the director general of the UNI Ruggero Lensi:

“The Ffp2 filter masks have been placed on the European Union market as respiratory protection devices for workers. Therefore there are no certified Ffp2 for children. Minors have not been considered in the standard because they are not workers and some parameters are suitable only for adults. There are Ffp2 of small size, but they cannot be considered valid for children “
